Who Are We?
The American Library Association (ALA) is the oldest, largest, and most influential library association in the world. For more than a century, it has been a leader in defending intellectual freedom and promoting the highest quality library and information services. The ALA is 64,000 individuals and organizations working together to promote and improve library and information services and librarianship. ALA members are volunteers who generously contribute their personal time to serve on committees and task forces, hold offices, write and edit professional publications and more. Why? For the good of libraries and librarians . . . and the people they serve.
The purpose of the ALA Student Chapter is to help students develop skills and relationships and to raise issues whose understanding can lead to a creative impact on the profession. Among other activities, the chapter supports roundtable discussions, sponsors social events (graduation parties and student soirees), and sponsors the annual t-shirt design contest.
