FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is used to transfer files between computers. In the case of a SLISweb account, FTP will transfer your files between the server and your computer where you can edit them.

In the SLIS computer lab, SecureFX is available on all the PCs, and Fetch is the program used on Macs.

The domain name of the remote site is: slisweb.lis.wisc.edu

The path is: /home/(username)/

What the path means is that you begin with a subdirectory called home, then go to a subdirectory called (username), where you will find your files. In some cases, the final element in the path is a subdirectory instead of a file.

Please Note:

  • the path is usually case-sensitive
  • select Secure FTP (SFTP) as the protocol
  • you can only access the SLISweb Server on wired campus network
  • do not save your password in FTP software
