Meeting Minutes: 02/12/2007
Upcoming tour possibilities, Marshall Erdman, CUNA Mutual Group, and the Lawrence Jacobsen Library
- Marshall Erdman, http://www.erdman.com/index.php
- CUNA Mutual Group, http://www.cunamutual.com/cmg/home/
The staff (an archivist plus one reference and one technical services librarian) would be willingly to speak with us, this would be a good example of a corporate library. - Lawrence Jacobsen Library, http://library.primate.wisc.edu/
The Jacobsen library serves the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center and employs two full time librarians (The Director and reference librarian as well as the public services and ILL/DDS coordinator) and one 80% percent time Technical Services Librarian. The library may be of extra interest because it has a fairly large presence on the web and most of its patron base is remote. The library created and updates the Primate Info Net: http://pin.primate.wisc.edu/, which includes PrimateLit a free database maintained by the library. - If there is a tour that particularly interests you please let us know by Feb.19! *slasc-officers@googlegroups.com*
Other suggestions for activities
- Document depository trip or a brown bag with the librarian there.
- Panel talk on how to set your curriculum; area special
librarians will be invited to speak about how they structured their
curriculum to fit the type of special libraries work they wanted.
Possible Panelists: Jamie Stoltenberg the Map and GIS librarian at the Robinson Map Library, Sunil Rao from the UW Law Library, Bob Koechly at Promega, Nancy Mulern the Government publications librarian at the Wisconsin State historical society library.
Would also either have panelist from SLIS to discuss options for designing your curriculum or a printed sheet with that information.
Suggestions for other panelists are welcome, please let us know.
Upcoming Career building event: SLA-SC and ALA-SC will be co-sponsoring a job application mentoring sessions.
