Getting jail access
To get permission to enter the jails, volunteers must apply for jail access. This entails completing an application form and attending a short jail orientation. Orientation is usually given at 8 am on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the City County Building.
Volunteers must contact the group coordinator for help with the access process. Briefly, the steps to be completed are:
- Obtain jail access application form. View form in printable PDF format (45 KB)
- Fill out form, and include state of issue of your driver's license if it is not Wisconsin.
- Get JLG advisor’s signature.
- Send copies to the JLG coordinator and jail staff.
- Contact jail staff to request notification of clearance.
- Register for jail orientation.
- Attend jail orientation.
Once volunteers have completed jail orientation, they are cleared to work in the libraries at the Public Safety Building and/or the City County Building.
